Tree House empowers the academic, social, and creative development of our community members. We invite you to join others who want to make a positive impact in the lives of children and adults by volunteering, shopping in our bookstore, participating in events or making a financial contribution). You can Volunteer - Stop by or email us to let us know you are interested.
Tree House Tutoring Time: 3:00-5:00, Tuesday-Friday, during the school year.
Assist school-age children in getting their homework done, then lead children in free choice reading or in the activity of the day, which might be creative writing, art, knitting, learning Spanish, or playing chess.
Saturdays at Tree House: 11:00-4:00, Saturdays.
Every Saturday, we need volunteer staff to help with bookstore operations, to organize books, to read with children during children’s hour, and perhaps to play chess with the neighbors!
ChessMates: monthly chess club: tournaments on Saturdays
Help coordinate and provide instruction for our chess club! Currently, we meet monthly, but we would like to play chess much more frequently!
Tree House Books Store Operations: 10:00-5:00, Tuesday-Friday
Be part of the volunteer staff at Tree House by providing steady support during our daily bookstore hours. Tasks will include selling books, creating seasonal displays, sorting and pricing books, brainstorming possible community events.
The Magazine Project: 5:30-7:00, Wednesdays
Help create a magazine, written by the neighborhood, for the neighborhood. A group of children, with a few adults, meets every Wednesday to participate in creative projects together, including writing, photography, art-making, and collaborative experiments. Provide instruction and staff support!
Special Workshops: Anytime
Do you have special skills and talents? Would you like to create a workshop to share your gifts with children and/or adults? Let us know!
Administrative Support: Anytime, anywhere!
We need volunteers to help with mailings, web-site design, correspondence, and marketing. Much of the work could be done at home in the evenings.
Summer Program at Tree House: Tree Shade: 1:30-3:30, Tuesday-Thursday, during the summer
Help create and coordinate our summer program with children! Our three units will incorporate themes of discovery—through history, art making, writing, and gardening. Each unit will end with an excursion in the city; the excursions may happen on Saturdays.
